The difference between first party audits, second party audits and third party audits

Posted by Craig Thornton

This is a video series from Mango partner Andrew Thornhill from IRM Systems in Melbourne, Australia.

In this blog, we’re going to take a look at what we mean by the terms first party audit, second party audit and third party audit. These are terms you might hear when you get involved in management system auditing or internal auditing.

Takeaways

  1. First Party Audit
    1. Essentially an internal audit.
  2. Second Party Audit
    1. If you want to audit suppliers, or sub-contractors,
    2. If your customer wants to audit you.
  3. Third Part Audit
    1. Parties that are totally independent of your business. They’re just there to determine whether you are meeting specific criteria.
