What is food safety plan?

A food control plan is a way to efficiently and effectively help manage your food safety. For your food handling processes your food safety plan must include:

  1. Food safety hazards
  2. Preventative measures
  3. Control limits
  4. Corrective actions.

What steps should be followed when setting up a food safety plan?

The best ways to implement a food safety plan is by following our steps to ensure you have a comprehensive food safety plan in your business.

  1. Hazards - It is important to recognise all the hazards in your food safety processes. A hazard is anything that poses any kind of risk to your food products. In this step, you can create a list of all the potential and real hazards.
  1. Preventative Measures - In this step, you should list all the preventative measures for each hazard which you identified in step one. We can then list control limits for these hazards as well, control limits are the limits which you must meet to ensure you have prevented that hazard.
  1. Monitoring Processes - You should create processes to monitor and ensure you are following the preventative measures and control limits which you have outlined.
  1. Corrective Actions - This step is very important. If you have completed your monitoring processes and realise that have not met the food safety preventative measures and control limits which you outlined, it’s important to have corrective actions to quickly resolve any issues you are experiencing.
  1. Keep Records - An integrated management system can help you track and follow the daily processes and have proof that you are following your preventative measures and control limits.
  1. Check and Review - Regularly checking the processes and updating them to ensure they are always relevant and effective within your business.
